About Innsworth & Imjin Barracks

Innsworth is in a semi-urban location four miles from Historic Gloucester and the Spa town of Cheltenham; both offer a good range of shops and facilities including theatres, cinema and sporting venues. Cardiff, Bristol and Birmingham can be reached within an hours drive. There is easy access to Cotswold Villages, The Forest of Dean or The Malvern Hills. You should never be stuck for something to do or places to visit in this area.

The Station has an excellent gym which has a five a side football pitch, badminton and basketball courts, free weights and aerobic machines. The gym has sauna and sun bed facilities. There are 4 squash courts, and flood lit tennis courts and astro turf pitch. The sports pitches have their own pavilion. There are limited activities for the children because so much is available locally but the community centre hosts Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Brownies, Rainbows, parents & toddlers and the crèche. The Air Training Corp is located on camp. The Station also has a hairdresser, thrift shop, theatre, learning centre and usual mess facilities along with an All Ranks Club.

Gloucester and Cheltenham both have stations which are on the main line and have car parking; both are about 4 miles away. There is a good local bus route to Gloucester and Cheltenham with buses running directly from outside camp twice an hour. The No. 94 bus also runs about every 10 to 15 minutes all day with a night service up to very late - it can be caught from the traffic lights by the Hare and Hounds pub which is about 5-10 minute walk turning left out of the main exit gate.

National Express runs a service to other major towns around the country; these buses can be caught from either Gloucester or Cheltenham. Mega bus runs from both locations to London. Innsworth is within an hours drive of Bristol, Birmingham and Cardiff airports; all of which offer domestic and foreign flights. There are good Park & Ride schemes for Cheltenham and Gloucester.

Healthcare

Medical and dental provision for serving personnel is on camp. The nearest doctors and dentists are in Churchdown. NHS dental provision for adults is limited. Gloucester and Cheltenham have hospitals both with A&E departments.

Eating Out

This area has no shortage of places to eat or drink, whether you like international cuisine or traditional Pub Grub. Close to camp is a fish & chip shop, Indian, Chinese and pizza-shop.

Shopping

There are 3 convenience stores, post office, garage, bakers, butchers, newsagents and chemist locally. All major supermarkets and DIY outlets are a short drive away. Gloucester and Cheltenham have the main high street names and a range of independent shops.
